Is wearing a diamond cross necklace a little blasphemous?

I guess this must sound like a silly question...is is blasphemous to wear a diamond cross necklace? Is it turning the atonement of Christ into a fashion statement rather than a symbol of faith? Or am I reading way too much into it?
